There are many poisonous plants in the outback. Three that are a major concern while hiking are poison oak, poison ivy and poison sumac. The plant found in abundance is poison ivy and can be identified by its characteristic three leaf pattern. The vine itself may be difficult to identify. Washing with soap and water soon after exposure may help against a breakout of the rash. Wearing proper hiking clothes will also help deter the skin from coming in contact with the plant.
