Indian Boundary Campground

Cherohala Skyway, Forest Service Rd.

Tellico Plains, Tennessee 37885

If you want a place to camp away from the crowds near the Smoky Mountain then this is the place. We call this our home away from home. This is the peaceful side of the Smoky Mountains.

The campground is located above the town of Tellico Plains, Tennessee. Approximately 14 miles up the Cherohala Scenic Skyway (Hwy. 165). The skyway runs from Tellico Plains Tennessee to Robbinsville, North Carolina. This a beautiful ride to take especially when the leaves start to change color in early fall.

The campground consists of 87 campsites with electric hookups. Water supply is available near sites 55, 73 and 74. There is a dump station available. All the bathrooms have been updated in recent years and are clean. There is a bathroom facility in each loop. All the campsites are fairly level, really nice, with lots of room. It states on their website the campground road is designed for vehicles up to 26 feet in length, any damage caused by larger vehicles may result in a fine.

The campsites are spaced apart so your not right up against your neighbor. Which is really nice.

An on-site campground store sells bread, ice, milk, ice cream, firewood and other basic camping supplies.

There is a 96 acre lake that allows non-motorized boats, kayaks, and canoes. There is a 3.2 mile hiking/biking trail around the lake. The lake also has a beach area for swimming.

Hiking around the lake can be fun and educational. There are a lot of plant species as well as numerous butterflies to see. There are some really nice views of the mountains and the lake. Occasionally we have run across some dear early in the morning.

There is an over flow area for camping when the main campground is full. There are two bathrooms available with non-flush toilets. No showers available there. There are no hookups in the overflow area but there is water available at three faucets.

In the winter months when the campground is closed the overflow remains open.

If you get a chance when you pass thru the town of Tellico Plains, Tennessee please make a stop at the Tellico Grains Bakery, 105 Depot Street. Their Telephone number is 423-253-6911. They have the best breads, focaccia bread, pastries, wood fired pizza and lunch service I have ever tasted. Definitely a must see! Their hours are limited so call ahead to check.

There is also the Tellico Beach Drive In. Great place to stop for a sundae. They are located at 1801 Cherohala Skyway, Tellico Plains, Tennessee 37385.
