Drinking Water: If you’re obtaining water from the backcountry it is recommended that you boil it for at least one minute. Waterborne illnesses, such as Giardia can now be removed with filtering systems. Some of these bacteria and virus can affect you in as little at 12 to 24 hours or as long as 7 to 10 days.
We on most occasions fill a bladder with ice and water from home for hikes greater than 3 miles. For those longer hikes our bladder holds up to 2 liters. For shorter hikes we may carry a couple of bottled waters. We also carry a filter/purification system for backup.
DO NOT DRINK UNTREATED WATER!!!
