Whether It’s a bee, wasp, yellow jacket or a hornet, they all leave painful stings. Usually they don’t attack unless disturbed. Unfortunately, an un-suspecting hiker can disturb a hive or nest and suffer the consequences. If you have an encounter stay calm and move slowly. Don’t run unless it’s a swarm.

If you are stung, try to locate and remove the stinger as quickly as possible. The stinger actually continues to release venom after the bee is dead or gone.

If your near a stream, try making cold compresses and apply it to the affected area. Should you experience an anaphylactic reaction seek medical attention immediately. If you already know that you are allergic, you should carry your necessary medical supplies with you at all times.
